Bogotá Keeps Shining: Tourism Strengthens as a Driver of Jobs and Development

In the first half of 2025, over 630,000 international tourists visited the Colombian capital, boosting formal employment and reaffirming Bogotá’s position as one of the most attractive urban destinations in Latin America.
Bogotá is not just a city to visit — it’s a city to live. Its energy, culture, gastronomy, and vibrant urban scene continue to captivate thousands of travelers who choose the capital each day as their gateway and base for exploration. And the numbers speak for themselves: according to the District Institute of Tourism, more than 630,000 international tourists arrived in Bogotá between January and June 2025 — a 28% increase compared to the same period last year.
This influx of visitors not only drives the economy but also creates formal employment: more than 162,000 people are currently working directly in tourism-related activities, representing 5.7% of all formal jobs in the city. It’s a powerful demonstration that tourism is not just an experience — it’s a transformative force in the lives of thousands of families.
But what makes Bogotá so irresistible? It’s the unique blend of tradition and modernity. From the graffiti-covered streets of La Candelaria to the flavors of farmers’ markets; from world-class museums to specialty cafés blooming in neighborhoods like Chapinero, Usaquén, and Teusaquillo — Bogotá is a stage, a source of inspiration, a living memory, and a bet on the future.
In addition, during these first six months of the year, hotel occupancy averaged 66.2%, and the average spending per international tourist was 4.1 million Colombian pesos — reflecting a growing interest in local, sustainable, and high-value experiences.
At Tierra Querida, we celebrate these milestones that show how Colombia — and especially Bogotá — is solidifying its place as a cultural and tourism powerhouse. We support conscious, diverse, and human-centered tourism that highlights our knowledge, identity, and capacity to welcome the world with open arms.
Now more than ever, Bogotá is ready for you.
Walk its streets, be surprised by its art, sip a coffee with a view of the mountains, and rediscover the capital that truly has it all.
