A commercial and cultural treasure atop the Antioquian mountains
Perched on one of the high hills of El Poblado, over 230 meters above sea level, Parque Comercial El Tesoro is a hub of stores, restaurants, cultural spaces, and event venues. At the same time, it serves as a prime lookout point in one of Medellín’s most visited neighborhoods.
From its bridges, plazas, and hallways—where fresh air flows freely thanks to the hundreds of surrounding trees—visitors can watch the sun rise over the city’s eastern horizon and set in the west during the afternoons.
“This location is a privilege. We offer a small escape from the conventional city. Our space spans 260,000 square meters, including 12,000 square meters of green areas. Enjoying a coffee on the Sunset terrace while admiring the sunset or listening to the gentle flow of La Escopetería creek is almost like stopping time—an unforgettable experience,” says Adriana González Zapata, General Manager of Parque Comercial El Tesoro.
For 25 years, this commercial complex has stood atop a section of the Central Andes Mountain Range that surrounds the Aburrá Valley. Since its inception, it has aimed to transcend the traditional shopping mall concept, not only promoting the purchase of goods and services but also fostering cultural and artistic enrichment.
Medical, Business, and Textile Tourism
Each week, high-performance athletes, artists, and internationally renowned personalities—along with hundreds of local and national visitors—arrive at El Tesoro’s two Medical Towers, home to 900 healthcare professionals. This area of the city has become a center for cutting-edge medical treatments, offering stem cell therapy and integrative medicine.
“These visitors enjoy a complete experience: they stay at the Novotel Hotel, which is located within our premises and is the second-largest hotel in the city in terms of rooms, attend their medical appointments, and then explore our commercial and cultural offerings,” González adds.
Throughout the mall’s hallways, visitors will find over 400 local brands, strengthening Medellín’s position as a hub for shopping and fashion tourism. Additionally, El Tesoro hosts annual events such as Feria de las Flores, Halloween, and Christmas celebrations, as well as major fairs like:
- Feria Cultura y Libros (Culture & Books Fair)
- Feria de Sostenibilidad (Sustainability Fair)
- Habítate (Wellness Fair)
- Movifest (Mobility Fair featuring the country’s top car dealerships)
Entrepreneurs, banking professionals, and business leaders also frequent El Tesoro’s Event Center (CET), which has been operating since 2011 and has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 people, making it a versatile and convenient space for corporate gatherings.
The New Teatro El Tesoro: A Commitment to Culture
One of Parque Comercial El Tesoro’s most ambitious recent projects is the opening of Teatro El Tesoro, a 900-seat venue designed for live performances. With a 165-square-meter stage, it is the perfect setting for concerts and performing arts, further enriching the cultural scene in this part of the city.
“Our offerings are broad and inclusive. We are surrounded by modern residential areas, but also by the historic El Garabato neighborhood and the UVA El Poblado community center. That’s why we strive to be accessible to everyone. Twice a week, we offer free yoga and dance classes, along with a book club that originated from our Culture & Books Fair and currently has a long waiting list,” González explains.
Thanks to these initiatives, over 7,200 people—including employees, vendors, suppliers, and medical specialists—actively participate in the mall’s ecosystem. Each month, El Tesoro welcomes approximately 1.4 million visitors, totaling over 16 million visitors annually, solidifying its position as a key hub for tourism, economy, and culture in Medellín.
